“Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” And that is essentially what a photographer does.
Tojo Kappithan immortalizes important and unforgettable moments in life through his camera. His magical clicks are a perfect blend of insight and unsurpassed talent leaving one awestruck. Each work of art finds its artist. And when you capture that idea or image through words or on canvas or through a camera, that’s when creativity blossoms.
As a child, he used to pose before the cameras so that his dad could see him miles away. When he grew up, he started clicking pictures and slowly earned recognition for his unique photographic skills. Tojo says that he owes his knowledge of photography to his uncles, Sajan Varghese and Ambrose Varghese, who inculcated the basics and the values of the art form in him from his early days. He comes from a family who are the proud owners of the well established studio – Sheeba’s Creative Video.
Tojo makes sure that each click captures the details that might not have otherwise caught the eye. He believes that photographs are never taken – it is always given and each of his pictures rightly conveys this philosophy.
Tojo Kappithan really feels that life has no retakes and loves to capture the raw moment, without any digitalized revisions to it. Photographers, in general, feel that wedding photography is one of the most stressful and demanding jobs. Tojo has a different view. He says that it is the most enjoyable and lucrative project within professional photography. It calls for a lot of hard work and it is tiring, and time-consuming. But at the end of the day, when you hand over a beautiful wedding album and see the look of pleasure on the couples’ faces, it turns out to be a very rewarding experience – both financially and personally.
Each project that Tojo takes up is like a mission and he feels that each wedding is different. Of course, a spectacular location and good weather definitely favour one’s job, making it much easier and enjoyable, but he believes that a professional photographer must be prepared for any situation and above all, research the entire sequence well before the big day, so that no important moment of the ceremony or the reception is missed. You cannot have re-shoots during a wedding, unlike in a fashion photo shoot. Shoot or miss, it’s the photographer’s responsibility.
He says that it is important for a photographer to develop his own style, demeanour, and structure early in one’s career. Monochrome clicks – the black and white images – are Tojo’s domain and he says that it helps him to create an ethereal quality to a beautiful and amazing moment. It’s something he is absolutely passionate about. He relies on his photographer’s ‘eye’ to seek out the beauty in each person or occasion. Tojo says that a person needs to hit the shutter at the right moment to get the perfect perspective, composition and colour.
Interestingly, Tojo hasn’t really sought the limelight. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with aspiring to be well-known, but he feels that respect and experience must be earned over time. He spends his time wisely, marketing to potential clients and shooting the mesmerizing beauty of countless celebrities.
A woman can play a big role in a man’s success, motivating and supporting him. A confident and outstanding woman – Dhanushree Subramanian, is the strong motivation for Tojo to come up with his own innovative project ‘KAPPICAKE Creative Studio’. By encouraging his ideas, supporting his vision and helping Tojo to turn it into reality, Dhanushree has played a big role in making KAPPICAKE happen.
Dhanushree, with her training in design, is eager to make her mark in the field of fashion. She knows what it takes to be successful in this world of glitz and glamour that is now coming to Kochi. She has recently stepped into the field of films too and is a face to watch out for. Her first movie “Melle” is getting ready for release. A highly energetic woman with a vision and commitment to all the work she takes on, Dhanushree has been the strength and support behind Tojo’s new venture. Their artistic chemistry is what brought them together. We are definitely looking forward to seeing this damsel in her own creative pursuits.
Kappicake Creative Studio will focus on fashion photography, wedding photography, celebrity portfolios, product creative ads and wildlife photography.
